Euphrasia hyperborea Jørg.
Publ. & Syn.Jørg., Bergens Mus. Årbok 1916-1917, Naturv. r. 5: 255 (1919). Lectotype (BG): Norway: Troms, Tromsø, Langnes, 24. Aug. 1908, leg. E. Jørgensen (Yeo 1978: 275).
NotesGusarova and Elven: Euphrasia hyperborea is a conspicuously large-flowered plant, with lilac flowers from very low nodes (2.-3. node), and usually eglandular. It is also ecologically special as it mainly is found in oligotrophic-mesotrophic ericaceous birch forests, often in very large amounts, and not in grasslands like the others. Jørgensen (1919) and subsequent western European and Nordic authors have considered it restricted to northern (and central) Fennoscandia but this name is now applied also for large-flowered Siberian plants. Occurrence in northern European Russia (between Fennoscandia and Siberia) is to be expected.
Chromosomes44 (4x). - Greenland. - Jørgensen et al. (1958, for E. arctica); Holmen in Löve and Löve (1961d, for E. arctica subsp. borealis).
Assignment of these reports to this species needs re-evaluation.
