Euphrasia frigida Pugsley
Publ. & Syn.Pugsley, J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 48: 490 (1930). Lectotype (C): Greenland: Godthaabs Fjord, Ujaragsuit, 13. Aug. 1885, leg. S. Hansen (Pugsley 1933: 306).
NotesGusarova and Elven: Pugsley (1933) designated as lectotype for Euphrasia frigida a large-flowered and short-stalked glandular plant of southern and central Greenland. Sell and Yeo (1970) confirmed the type and characteristics. The Greenland E. frigida differs from the northernmost large-flowered northeastern American species (E. hudsoniana) in, e.g., the abundant glands. It also differs from the assumedly closest northwestern European species (E. stricta) in several features in leaves, hairs, glands, and flowers.
Chromosomes44 (4x). - Greenland. - Jørgensen et al. (1958, for E. arctica); Holmen in Löve and Löve (1961d, for E. arctica subsp. borealis).
Assignment of these reports to this species needs re-evaluation.
