Callitriche hermaphroditica L.
Publ. & Syn.Callitriche autumnalis f. macrocarpa Hegelm., Verh. Bot. Ver. Brandenburg 9: 35 (1867). Holotype (MEL): England: "Callitriche autumnalis, Anglesea, Anglia from Charles Babington". - Callitriche hermaphroditica subsp. macrocarpa (Hegelm.) Lansdown, Watsonia 26: 106 (2006).
NotesElven and Murray: Lansdown (2006a) accepted a second race - subsp. macrocarpa - from Europe and has suggested this race to be present also in the northern North American material (several annotations in ALA). The difference from the type race is in fruit size. No range is given. We are reluctant to accept two nearly fully sympatric subspecies based on this character alone.
Chromosomes6 (2x, x = 3). - Europe (N, C), Russia, Canada, U.S.A., Greenland. - Numerous reports.
Not included: A report of 2n = 12 (4x) from northeastern Asia (Probatova et al. in Tzvelev 1996b) needs confirmation.
