Hippuris lanceolata Retz.
Publ. & Syn.Retz., Observ. Bot. 3: 7 (1783). Described from the Bothnian Bay (Finland).
NotesMurray, Elven, and Solstad: We have assigned all specimens we have seen of Hippuris from Svalbard (Bear Island), Greenland, and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago to H. lanceolata. These were previously assigned to H. vulgaris. We have also re-assigned to H. lanceolata a significant part of the material previously assigned to H. vulgaris and H. tetraphylla from northernmost mainland North America and some material from Iceland and mainland northern Europe. Reports from the Russian areas are less certain, as the material has not been revised along the same lines yet, but we confirm material from northern Siberia and Chukotka.
Chromosomes32 (4x). - Europe (Norway, Finland), Far East (N), Greenland. - Jørgensen et al. (1958, for H. vulgaris); Engelskjøn (1979, for H. vulgaris); Arohonka (1982); Zhukova (1982).
