Oxycoccus palustris subsp. microphyllus (Lange) Á. Löve & D. Löve
Publ. & Syn.Á. Löve & D. Löve, Univ. Colorado Stud., Ser. Biol. 17: 28 (1965). - Oxycoccus palustris f. microphyllus Lange, Consp. Fl. Groenland. 2: 267 (1887). Described from Greenland. - Vaccinium oxycoccos subsp. microphyllum (Lange) Feilberg, Meddel. Grønland, Biosci. 15: 12 (1984).
NotesSubspecies microphyllus seems to have the main morphology of Oxycoccus microcarpus but the chromosome number of O. palustris. It might be a case of autopolyploidy (from O. microcarpus) or of introgression from O. microcarpus into O. palustris in a restricted part of northeastern North America and Greenland. Lange (1887) described it without reference to and perhaps without knowledge of O. microcarpus. Its assignment as a race to O. palustris should perhaps be reconsidered.
Chromosomes48 52 (ca. 8x). - Canada (E), U.S.A. (NE), Greenland. - Several reports.
Aberrant numbers of 2n = 36 (6x), 42 (7x), and 72 (12x) are reported by Gugnacka-Fiedor (1983).
