Lysimachia thyrsiflora L.
Publ. & Syn.L., Sp. Pl.: 147 (1753). Described from Europe. Type not designated (Jarvis 2007: 649). - Naumburgia thyrsiflora (L.) Rchb., Fl. Germ. Excurs. 1: 410 (1831).
NotesKorobkov (PAF proposal) treated this species as a Naumburgia.
Kelso 2002: The distinction between Lysimachia and Naumburgia is not clear yet but several groups are working on whether or not Naumburgia might be a distinct genus based on molecular evidence. Currently the distinction is not made by most botanists in North America (including me for now), cf. Hartman and Nelson (2001), nor in the Flora of China treatments of Lysimachia (Hu and Kelso in Wu and Raven 1996). So, while molecular evidence may yet lead us to breaking up of Lysimachia into segregate genera, we currently do not do so, and given my experience with other groups in the Primulaceae I am currently hesitant to recognize Naumburgia based only on the morphological differences proposed. More work needed here!
Elven: In a subsequent molecular study of Primulaceae and Myrsinaceae (Martins et al. 2003), Naumburgia (Lysimachia) thyrsiflora nested well inside Lysimachia based on ITS sequence data. We retain Naumburgia inside Lysimachia.
