Draba oblongata R. Br. ex DC. | |
Publ. & Syn. | Draba groenlandica E. Ekman, Svensk Bot. Tidskr. 23: 486 (1929). Described from Greenland. Eight syntypes cited. - Draba arctica subsp. groenlandica (E. Ekman) Böcher, Biol Skr. 14, 7: 18 (1966). |
Notes | The question mark for Norway relates to a collection from northern Spitsbergen (Sverrefjellet at Bockfjorden, TRH!). The plants resemble Draba oblongata in most characters. The locality is rarely visited and it is difficult to base a firm conclusion on the few plants available. In Alaska, this species has only been documented from 1-2 localities on the north coast. It was recently confirmed from Taimyr and the Lena River Delta in northern and northeastern Siberia. De Candolle validated the name D. oblongata R. Br., Voy. Explor. Baffin's Bay, App.: 143 (1819) nom. nud.. The name was for a long time misapplied to a yellow-flowered species (D. micropetala Hook.) but is now, after the elucidation by Mulligan (1974a), well established as the valid name for the species previously known as D. groenlandica. Elven and Andersen: Andersen (2003) did not find good morphological separation between Greenland D. oblongata and Svalbard and Greenland D. arctica. They overlapped or merged in the majority of features studied. In other areas, like northern Canada and northern Siberia, they mostly keep distinct even if they often co-occur. The ploidy difference supports D. oblongata as a species. |
Chromosomes | 64 (8x). - Siberia (N), Far East (N), Canada, Greenland. - Several reports, numerous counts, one (Heilborn 1941) probably made on type material of D. groenlandica. |
