Sorbus groenlandica (C.K. Schneid.) Á. Löve & D. Löve
Publ. & Syn.Á. Löve & D. Löve, Univ. Colorado Stud., Ser. Biol. 17: 23 (1965). - Sorbus americana var. groenlandica C.K. Schneid., Bull. Herb. Boissier, sér. 2, 6: 314 (1906). Syntypes: Greenland: (1-2) Grønland, 03. July and 16. Aug. 1888, leg. Rosenvinge; (3) Grønland, 1889, leg. Hartz; (4) Grønland, leg. Rink. - Sorbus decora var. groenlandica (C.K. Schneid.) G.N. Jones, J. Arnold Arbor. 20: 30 (1939).
NotesGladkova (PAF proposal) reported Sorbus groenlandica also from "Baffin-Labrador" but it does not seem to reach the Arctic in mainland North America (Scoggan 1978c; Hultén and Fries 1986). Sorbus groenlandica has often been considered a race of one or the other of the eastern North American species S. americana or S. decora. Both these are, however, diploids, whereas S. groenlandica is tetraploid. Löve and Löve (1965) suggested that it could be an allopolyploid species derived from S. americana x decora. We have no information about its reproductive system.
