Oxytropis bellii (Britton ex Macoun) Palib.
Publ. & Syn.Pabib., Bull. Soc. Bot. Genève, sér. 2, 2: 19 (1910). - Spiesia bellii Britton ex Macoun, Canad. Rec. Sci. 4: 1148 (1894). Holotype (CAN): Canada: Nunavut, Hudson Bay, Digges Island, 15. Sept. 1884, leg. R. Bell. - Oxytropis arctica var. bellii (Britton ex Macoun) B. Boivin, Naturaliste Canad. 94: 73 (1967). - Oxytropis arctica subsp. bellii (Britton ex Macoun) Á. Löve & D. Löve, Taxon 31: 347 (1982).
NotesMurray and Elven: Porsild and Cody (1980) accepted and mapped Oxytropis bellii as a fairly local Hudson Bay species. Gillett et al. (2007) considered it a race (variety) of O. arctica.
Yurtsev: It is funny enough to read that Dr. Gillett considers O. bellii a variety of ... O. arctica.
Murray & Elven: Several earlier North American authors have done the same as seen from the synonymy above. These North American authors have not assign the same importance to semiverticillate leaflets as did Yurtsev. However, we agree with Yurtsev in this matter and regard O. bellii as specifically distinct and as belonging in this relationship (sect. Baicalia) rather than in that of O. arctica.
