Chromosomes35-47 40 (8x). - Europe. - Numerous reports.
Nordal and Jonsell (1998) confirmed that the base chromosome number in this group is x = 5. This species is then octoploid with some aneuploidy (see especially Valentine 1949, 1950, 1956).
Not included: A report of 2n = ca. 20 (ca. 4x) from Finland (Sorsa 1963b). In view of the prevalent octoploidy this report should be checked against voucher.
