Notes | Welsh (2003) included the non-arctic Atriplex alaskensis S. Watson, Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 9: 108 (1874) syntypes (GH, US): Alaska: Admiralty Island, Barlows Cove, leg. Kellogg 176 in A. gmelinii as var. alaskensis (S. Watson) S.L. Welsh, Rhodora 102: 416 (2001). He stated A. gmelinii to be a hexaploid which might mean that he assigned some of the chromosome reports above to something else. Moreover, he stated it to be restricted (endemic) to North America. The species was described (partly) from Kamtchatka and is present in northeastern Asia, at least on the Chukchi Peninsula (Sekretareva 2004; own observations; O). |
