NotesSee also Silene. In the analysis of Silenoideae by Oxelman et al. (2001), Viscaria constituted one main branch together with Ixoca and Atocion (species previously in Silene) and was recognizable as a genus. Morton (2005c) did not accept Viscaria as different from Silene.
