Silene uralensis subsp. ogilviensis (A.E. Porsild) D.F. Brunt.
Publ. & Syn.D.F. Brunt, Canad. J. Bot. 59: 1362 (1981). - Melandrium apetalum subsp. ogilviense A.E. Porsild, Publ. Bot. (Ottawa) 4: 23 (1974). Described from the Ogilvie Mountains in the Yukon Territory (Canada). Five syntypes cited. - Gastrolychnis soczavana subsp. ogilviensis (A.E. Porsild) Á. Löve & D. Löve, Bot. Not. 128: 510 (1976).
NotesMurray and Elven: Silene uralensis subsp. ogilviensis is problematic. It has been considered a tetraploid local race of the Yukon Territory but Morton (2005c) mapped it from scattered localities throughout low-arctic regions in Alaska, the Yukon Territory, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and northern Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec. We have little information about it but the North American material (ALA, CAN) we have seen fitting the characters reported by Morton (2005c) is inseparable from S. uralensis except for being subglabrous. Glabrous or subglabrous plants appear as populations here and there but not with the other characters demanded in this race. We would like a confirmation that the tetraploid chromosome count(s) from the Yukon Territory do not belong to the widespread S. soczavana. Subspecies ogilviensis may be an artefact.
