Silene uniflora Roth
Publ. & Syn.Silene inflata var. litoralis Rupr., Fl. Ingr. 1: 159 (1860). Described from "in arenosis maritimis insulae Kronstadt" in the St. Petersburg area (European Russia). - Oberna behen subsp. litoralis (Rupr.) Tzvelev, Novosti Sist. Vyssh. Rast. 32: 183 (2000).
NotesThe Icelandic plant differs morphologically from the other northwestern European ones and has been described as Silene maritima subsp. islandica. Its status is unresolved. The diagnostic characters reported by Löve and Löve (1950) are vague, as compared with S. uniflora (S. maritima) s. str.: "folia crassiora et viridiora, breviora et latiora; flores majores; habitus caespitosus; rami saepissime uni vel biflori". All these characters are also found in other European populations but perhaps not in as constant a combination as in the Icelandic plants.
