Spergularia salina J. Presl & C. Presl
Publ. & Syn.Arenaria rubra var. marina L., Sp. Pl.: 423 (1753). Described from European seashores. Lectotype (BM-000628543): Herb. Clifford: 173, Arenaria 3, sheet B (Rossbach 1940: 135, pl. 591). - Spergula marina (L.) Bartl. & H.L. Wendl., Beitr. Bot. 2: 64 (1825).
NotesJonsell: The priority of Spergularia salina J. Presl & C. Presl 1819 vs. Spergula marina (L.) Bartl. & H.L. Wendl. 1825 is based on Rauschert. He showed that Alsine marina All. 1785 is not based on Arenaria rubra var. marina L. 1753 and that the epithet "marina" therefore has no priority at species level before "salina" for this species.
Chromosomes36 (4x). - Europa, Canada (E). - Several reports.
Not included: A report of 2n = 18 (2x) from Delta in Manitoba, Canada (Löve and Löve 1982a, as "Spergella marina"). It is not clear what plant this report refers to, especially as Spergella is considered a synonym of Sagina (but we think this is just a misprint for Spergula or Spergularia). There are reports of diploid plants named as Spergularia marina or salina from Spain and Egypt.
