NotesStellaria media is well established, archaeophytic or possibly native on seashores into the Arctic in the amphi-Atlantic regions including Greenland where it is known from subfossils at the Medieval Norse settlements. In other arctic regions, it has been introduced more recently and much less frequently and is partly casual.
Chromosomes36-44 40 (4x, x = 9-11). - Europe, Russia, Canada. - Numerous reports.
The base chromosome number x = 11 is found in the more southern relatives S. pallida (Dumort.) Crép. (2n = 22) and S. neglecta Weihe (2n = 22, 44).
Not included: Reports of 2n = 18 from southern Siberia (Krasnikov and Schaulo 1990) and of 2n = 28 from India (Pal 1952) may belong to other species.
