Bistorta (L.) Adans.
Publ. & Syn.Excluded: Bistorta officinalis (B. major).
NotesSeveral authors have merged Bistorta with Persicaria under the latter name. However, the majority of authors in recent years have accepted two genera (e.g., Elven 1994; Karlsson 2000b; Elven et al. 2005; Freeman and Hinds 2005). Good molecular support for this separation is found in Kim and Donoghue (2008, cpDNA and nrITS) where Persicaria constitutes one and the combined Agonogonon + Bistorta + Koenigia another main branch in the phylogeny.
