Papaver nivale Tolm.
Publ. & Syn.Tolm., Svensk Bot. Tidskr. 24: 42 (1930). Described from the Verkhoyansk Mountains in Yakutia (Siberia). Syntypes (LE!): (1) "im Tal des Tukulan, 914-977 m. ΓΌ. d. M.", 24. July 1925, leg. Nedrigailow; (2) "am fl. Dyby", 14. July 1891, leg. I. and M. Chersky. Lectotype not selected.
NotesPapaver nivale has a large range in the Verkhoyansk and Kolyma mountains. Petrovsky (1999) stated it to be "very similar to P. pulvinatum" and also tetraploid as is the main body of that species. Elven and Solstad found large morphological variation in the material seen at several Russian herbaria, but there is a consistency that probably justifies recognition as a species. Material was not available for molecular study.
