NotesPeschkova (1994a) accepted Papaver czekanowskyi as a species related to the non-arctic eastern Siberian and Russian Far East P. stubendorffii Tolm. She did not mention P. microcarpum. In a morphological analysis (Solstad 2009), subsp. czekanowskyi resembled subsp. microcarpum in nearly all features except for broader leaf lobes.
