Papaver atrovirens V.V. Petrovsky
Publ. & Syn.V.V. Petrovsky, Bot. Zhurn. 68: 231 (1983). Holotype (LE!): Russian Far East: Wrangel Island, "ad litus meridionale, ad sinum Somnitelnaja", 16. July 1971, leg. V.V. Petrovsky 71-33.
NotesPetrovsky commented that the closest relative of Papaver atrovirens is P. paucistaminum, but that the two species differ in size and color of flowers, shape of petals and capsules, and in the more numerous stamens in P. atrovirens. In the field, the two entities are clearly different. They grouped together but as two clusters in the analysis of AFLP markers. The AFLP sample material we assigned to P. atrovirens was identified as such by Petrovsky. See, however, the ploidy levels.
