Clematis sibirica Mill.
Publ. & Syn.Atragene speciosa Weinm., Bull. Soc. Imp. Naturalistes Moscou 23: 538 (1850). Described from Russia.
NotesThe prevalent European view has been to treat the northern and eastern Clematis sibirica as a race (subspecies) of C. alpina Mill. Clematis alpina s. str. is European Alpine. The two taxa differ in morphology, albeit in few characters, and are geographically separate. We have found no report of transitions and accept two species. The priority species names for the northern species, depending on genus, are Clematis sibirica Mill. or Atragene speciosa Weinm.
