Notes | Danthonia intermedia reaches the Arctic on Hudson Bay (Scoggan 1978b; Porsild and Cody 1980). The non-arctic northeastern Asian plant (Kamtchatka-Okhotsk) has been recognized as a race or species: D. intermedia subsp. riabushinskii (Kom.) Tzvelev, Zlaki SSSR: 610 (1976) [Avena riabushinskii Kom., Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 13: 86 (1914); lectotype (LE): Russian Far East: Kamtchatka, "bass. r. Paratunki ... Nikolaevskoe", 09. July 1908, leg. V. Komarov (see Tzvelev 1976: 610)]. It was originally reported to be diploid (Sokolovskaya 1963) but a tetraploid number has subsequently been reported from Kamtchatka (Probatova and Sokolovskaya 1984c) as from its American counterpart. Its identity with American D. intermedia needs confirmation. |
