NotesSubspecies alpestris has been accepted as a native, boreal-alpine and southern arctic race in Finland, Sweden, Norway (Elven 1994; Mossberg and Stenberg 2003; Elven et al. 2005), and in northeastern European Russia and northwestern Siberia (Tzvelev 1999b, PAF proposal). It is geographically, ecologically, and partly cytologically different from subsp. pratensis but morphologically separable only in minor characters (Rapp 1971, 1972, 1980).
