Poa pratensis subsp. angustifolia (L.) Gaudin
Publ. & Syn.Gaudin, Agrost. Helv. 1: 214 (1811). - Poa angustifolia L., Sp. Pl.: 67 (1753). Lectotype (LINN): Europe. Herb. Linn. 87.12, excl. second culm from left (Soreng in Cafferty et al. 2000: 254).
NotesSubspecies angustifolia is more thermophilous than the other races and does not approach the Arctic as native anywhere in Europe or North America. It is reported as adventive from Kanin-Pechora (Vorkuta?) in northeastern European Russia and from South Chukotka in the Russian Far East but there is no information about whether it is established there (Tzvelev, comment). Pedersen (1972) reported it to persist and to be semi-established in several places in southwestern Greenland. Soreng (2007) reported it to be "temperate" in North America, probably excluding Greenland.
This is perhaps the most distinctive and least polymorphic of the races of Poa pratensis s. lat. and a candidate for rank as species. It is also generally a low-polyploid (Soreng 2007).
Chromosomes30-ca. 84 (ca. 4x-ca. 12x). - Europe, Russia, Far East. - Numerous reports. Proposed ranges: ca. 49-ca. 84 (Conert 1998), 46-72 (Tzvelev PAF proposal).
