Poa malacantha Kom.
Publ. & Syn.Poa komarovi Roshev., Izv. Glavn. Bot. Sada SSSR 26: 286 (1927). Type (LE): Russian Far East: Kamtchatka, "basin reki Paratunki, Sel Klyuchi", 28. June 1908, leg. V. Komarov 1080.
NotesTzvelev: This plant is not Poa lanata! It could be treated at subspecific level but I would not do so, see Probatova (1985: 270). A var. vivipara (Roshev.) Tzvelev in the Russian Far East: South and East Chukotka.
Elven and Murray: Soreng (1991, 2007) assumed Poa malacantha to belong within P. arctica subsp. lanata. Soreng et al. (2003) and Soreng (2007) synonymized P. malacantha with P. arctica subsp. lanata. Alaskan material (ALA) initially annotated as P. malacantha is very similar to P. arctica subsp. lanata, as proposed by Soreng. Poa malacantha is entered provisionally together with three other Russian plants for which we have not made a joint PAF evaluation.
