Poajemtlandica (Almq.) K. Richt.
Publ. & Syn.L., Sp. Pl.: 67 (1753). Described from northern and central European mountains. Lectotype (LINN): Herb. Linn. 87.2 (Soreng in Cafferty et al. 2000: 254).
NotesKristinsson (2008) confirmed presence of Poa x jemtlandica in the Arctic in northeastern Iceland. In Scandinavia it stops at the northern limit of one of its parents, P. laxa subsp. flexuosa, well south of the Arctic.
Brysting and Elven: Nannfeldt (1937) proposed P. x jemtlandica to be a bulbil-reproducing hybrid species. Its hybrid origin is confirmed by several techniques (Brysting et al. 1997, 2000): morphological analysis (intermediacy), isoenzymes (additive pattern), and GISH (addition in chromosomes and subsequent translocation of genomes). Its origin is probably polytopic but it is uniform morphologically, often occurs apart from its parents, and it is not a recent hybrid as much genetic restructuring and stabilization has taken place after the hybridizations (Brysting et al. 2000). Its range is, however, still within the meeting zone of its parents in Scandinavia, Scotland, and Iceland.
