NotesProbatova (1974a) recognized the genus Arctopoa, encompassing the sections Arctopoa and Aphydris from Poa. Gillespie and Soreng (2005) found Arctopoa to be a basal branch in a Poa phylogeny. Soreng commented in 2008 that information from ITS and cpDNA suggested generic rank for Arctopoa, probably hybridogeneous and with some species from Poa or a progenitor as one parent. This conclusion was published by Gillespie et al. (2008).
