Calamagrostis purpurascens subsp. purpurascens

NotesCalamagrostis purpurascens has recently been found as new to Europe in several localities within a small area in northern Svalbard (Elvebakk and Nilsen 2002, additional finds by Alsos, Elven et al. 2010; TROM, O). The material conforms to subsp. purpurascens which then becomes amphi-Atlantic.
       Elven and Aiken: Greene (1980) included C. maltei and C. yukonensis in var. purpurascens, followed by Soreng and Greene in Soreng et al. (2003), Marr et al. (2007), and by us.

Some reports probably only for the collective species. The reports of tetraploids (presumably representing sexual plants) are, with one exception (Greene 1980, eastern North America), from the Pacific areas from Japan to Chukotka, western Alaska, and one from the Mackenzie District (Bowden 1960b).
