NotesThe eastern North American plant is considered a var. cisatlanticum Fernald (e.g., Crins 2007a) but does not reach the Arctic.
Chromosomes28 (4x). - Europe, Russia, Siberia, Far East (N, S), Canada ("cisatlanticum"). - Numerous reports.
Not included: A report of 2n = 14 (2x) from the Murman area (Sokolovskaya and Strelkova 1960). It is difficult to imagine what can have been mistaken for this easily recognized species.
