Publ. & Syn.Pilg., Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 74: 6 (1947). - Elymus innovatus Beal, Grass. N. Amer. 2: 650 (1887). Type: U.S.A.: Montana, North Fork of Sims River, 1887, leg. R.S. Williams.
NotesTzvelev: Subspecies rank is possible for Leymus velutinus but it can be set to species rank. I have seen very few specimens from North America.
Elven and Murray: We enter two subspecies (as did Barkworth 2007a) but keep the option open that species rank might be the more appropriate, based on a ploidy difference associated with some morphological characters. However, Barkworth (2007a) reported only quantitative differences.
