| Notes | Böcher et al. (1978) suggested Leymus arenarius to be adventive in Greenland from the times of Medieval Norse (Viking) settlement. The grains have been used for food in times of need, at least in Iceland, so a deliberate introduction is not impossible (and neither is an unintentional one). Pedersen (1972: 76-77) discussed the Greenland case. Barkworth (2007a) mapped its range in Greenland to reach much farther north than any Medieval Norse settlements, both on the west and on the east coast (where there were no Norse settlements). Origin from an introduction is improbable. |
