Leymus mollis (Trin.) Pilg.
Publ. & Syn.Pilg., Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 74: 6 (1947). - Elymus mollis Trin. in Spreng., Neue Entd. 2: 72 (1821). Described from Kamtchatka (the Russian Far East) and from the Aleutian Islands (Alaska). Holotype (LE TRIN-3137.01): Herb. Gorenk. - Elymus arenarius subsp. mollis (Trin.) Hultén, Fl. Kamtchatka 1: 153 (1927).
NotesThe earlier and often cited combination Leymus mollis (Trin.) Hara 1938 is illegitimate as is was given as a synonym for Elymus mollis.
Elven & Murray: The two subspecies are said to be separable by pubescence on glumes and lemmas but in our opinion not always so. Their ranges are overlapping (parapatric). They can be accepted as races, as done by Soreng et al. (2003) and Barkworth (2007a), but hardly as species as done by many Russian authors.
Chromosomes28 (4x). - Löve (1984b, secondary report for Elymus asiaticus).
