Carex recta Boott
Publ. & Syn.Boott in Hook., Fl. Bor.-Amer. 2: 220 (1839). Holotype (K): Canada: Labrador, Herb. Hooker.
NotesCarex recta does not reach the Arctic on the European side. Chater (1980) considered the Scottish plants to probably have developed from C. aquatilis x paleacea, and that is the origin proposed also for the Canadian plants (Cayouette and Morisset 1985, 1986). The name C. recta has been applied both for the northeastern North American and for the Scottish and southern Scandinavian plants.
Chromosomes73-ca. 80. - Europe (N), Canada (E). - At least three reports.
Not included: A report of 2n = ca. 70 from western Canada (Moore and Calder 1964). The complex is not otherwise reported from western Canada (Standley et al. 2002).
