Carex stylosa C.A. Mey.
Publ. & Syn.C.A. Mey., Mém. Acad. Imp. Sci. St.-Pétersbourg Divers Savans 1: 222 (1831). Holotype (LE): Alaska: the Aleutian Islands, "Unalaschka", leg. Eschscholtz.
NotesElven and Murray: Hultén (1968a) and Cody (1996) accepted an eastern North American var. nigritella, also accepted by Böcher et al. (1978) for Greenland. The morphological differences reported between var. stylosa and var. nigritella are few but the gap between the Pacific and the Atlantic ranges of the distribution is considerable. We treat them as two races even if Murray (2002a) did not accept races.
