Carex macrogyna Turcz. ex Steud.
Publ. & Syn.Carex petricosa auct., non Dewey (1836).
NotesThe boundary between Carex macrogyna and C. petricosa runs either along the Kolyma River or farther east in West Chukotka. Kozhevnikov (1988) assigned all plants from the Russian Far East to C. macrogyna but did not map occurrences for it in Chukotka. Sekretareva (1999) assigned the West Chukotkan plants to C. macrogyna and the East Chukotkan ones to C. petricosa, whereas Sekretareva (2004) accepted both species from East Chukotka. We provisionally follow Sekretareva's first proposal.
The scant data suggest that C. macrogyna has the chromosome number of 2n = ca. 32, C. petricosa that of 2n = 47-48. If so, a report of 2n = 48 (Zhukova and Petrovsky 1980, as C. macrogyna) from West Chukotka should be assigned to C. petricosa and the range of this species should be extended westwards (probably to Kolyma).
Chromosomesca. 32. - Siberia (Stanovoye Nagorye). - Krogulevich (1971).
