Carex aurea Nutt.
Publ. & Syn.?Carex garberi var. bifaria Fernald, Rhodora 37: 255 (1935). Type: Canada: Quebec, R Ste. Anne des Monts, Aug. 1905, leg. Collins and Fernald. - ?Carex garberi subsp. bifaria (Fernald) Hultén, Ark. Bot., n. s., 7, 1: 27 (1968).
NotesBall: I do not recognize subsp. bifaria. There are many apparently fertile intermediates between Carex aurea and C. garberi although they differ somewhat ecologically. See the arguments in Cronquist et al. (1977) for considering "bifaria" synonymous with C. aurea Nutt. s. str.
Elven: Rothrock and Reznicek (2002a) did not include the name var./subsp. bifaria .
