Luzula kjellmaniana Miyabe & Kudô
Publ. & Syn.Luzula arctica Blytt, Norges Fl. 1: 299 (1861). Lectotype (UPS!): Norway: "Norveg. centr. Dovre" [i.e., Sør-Trøndelag: Oppdal, Mount Knutshø], leg. M.N. Blytt in E. Fries, Herb. Norm. fasc. 10: 65 (Kirschner in Kirschner et al. 2002a: 90).
NotesEgorova et al.: Miyabe and Kudô based their description of Luzula kjellmaniana on Kjellman's L. arcuata f. latifolia. The type of f. latifolia is therefore the type of L. kjellmaniana (and of L. beeringiana), i.e., the lectotype cited above. We agree that the types of L. kjellmaniana and L. tundricola V.N. Vassil. 1953 belong to the same species. The latter name, applied by several authors, is then a synonym of L. kjellmaniana as stated already by Hämet-Ahti and Virrankoski (1971).
The Russian usage of the name L. kjellmaniana - for a taxon of the L. multiflora group - is erroneous.
Chromosomes(1) 24. - Far East (N). - At least five reports.
(2) 36. - Alaska. - Hämet-Ahti and Virrankoski (1971).
Kirschner et al. (2002a) reported 12 full-size and 24 half-size chromosomes, on the authority of Hämet-Ahti and Virrankoski (1971).
