Luzula parviflora subsp. parviflora
Publ. & Syn.Luzula melanocarpa auct. ross., non (Michx.) Desv. (1808).
NotesMany Russian authors have applied the name subsp. melanocarpa (or Luzula melanocarpa) for North Pacific plants. This is a misapplication according to Kirschner (in comment). We are not sure what these plants represent. One possibility is that they belong to a yet not recognized part of the range of subsp. fastigiata, another that there is an unrecognized race.
Chromosomes24. - Europe (N), Russia (N), Far East (N), Alaska, Canada, U.S.A., Greenland. - Numerous reports.
Kirschner et al. (2002a) rather reported the chromosome number as two full-size and 20 half-size chromosomes (i.e., 2n = 12), on the authority of Hämet-Ahti and Virrankoski (1971).
