Publ. & Syn.Oakes in Z. Thomps., Nat. Hist. Vermont 1: 200 (1842). - Cypripedium bulbosum L., Sp. Pl.: 951 (1753). Described from Sweden, Russia, and Siberia. Lectotype (LINN): Herb. Linn. 1061.4 (Baumann et al. 1989: 441).
NotesSheviak and Catling (2002b) accepted three races of Calypso bulbosa: the Eurasian var. bulbosa, the trans-American var. americana, and the narrowly western North American var. occidentalis (Holz.) B. Boivin. Only var. americana reaches the Arctic.
