NotesButomus umbellatus reaches the Borderline Arctic in the Malozemelskaya Tundra and Polar Ural.
Chromosomes16-42 26 (2x) 39 (3x). - Europe, Siberia, Asia (C, S), Far East (N), Canada. - Numerous reports.
The majority of reports throughout the range are of diploids and triploids but with frequent aneuploidy, see, e.g. Fedorov (1969). Löve and Löve (1975a) 'simplified' the matter by just reporting 2n = 26 and 39.
