| Notes | Some authors consider Equisetum s. str. and Hippochaete two genera (e.g., Löve and Löve 1975a). In a phylogenetic study based on cpDNA data (rbcL and trnL-F), Des Marais et al. (2003) found Hippochaete and Equisetum (as subgenera) to be sister groups to a South American species (E. bogotense Kunth) basal to both branches. We retain Hippochaete within Equisetum. |
